Oh dear...

9 Months?!
Shit.
Sorry! I have no idea why I let this slip. I guess its just like any other diary I've every tried to keep. Flurries of activity and then nothing.
I shall try and summarise some of the things that happened since I last posted...
Vegas for my 30th and got engaged.
I ran the London Marathon
Wrote a play
I swam round the cyclades on a Swim Trek holiday.
Had a lovely holiday in greece after the trekking
Got married in Scotland on a beach and made everyone swim with us in the North Sea.
Wrote a show with over 60 performers in.
Wrote a panto which is currently in performance.
Seriously managed to slack off with my running and swimming.
Haven't been able to go to the Serp this season as i've been so hectic and am trying to get back into running.
It is ridiculously cold in London currently with snow still on the ground.
I'm working on a treatment for a two part drama and also on a re-write of my play.

Actually looking at the above list of things kind of explains why I haven't been blogging...
Hopefully things have calmed down a bit with Christmas on the way...

Currently enjoying a cheesy guilty pleasure that is Vampire Diaries. Looking forward to season 3 of True Blood and also the new series of Dexter...

Oh and I'm also trying to get pregnant...seems to be taking longer than planned but will update when I've managed it!! :-)

cold, cold, cold...

will this temperature ever rise?!
It is sooo cold in London right now and there is snow elsewhere in the country. I am writing this from a cushion on the floor with my back to the radiator and my hoody firmly fixed atop my head!!! yuk.
roll on spring I say!
the snowdrops have poked through and some of the bulbs are just tentatively peeking out and i can't wait for them to be in full bloom!
I set up my mini-greenhouse yesterday and plant some broad bean, rocket and marigold seeds for germination in there. hopefully it will warm up just a little for them! Just had to scare off the local bully cat who had chased my girl cat to the very top of a tree - was he planning on pushing her?! cat murder - a scary reality in our back garden...
the swimming has been put on ice, literally, so am focussing on the running. also playing netball again tonight after last night's win. love it.
now must, must, must get on with work.

running, running, running

I have to admit i'm starting to get quite a bit more addicted to running. On saturday I went for a 15 mile run and though it was tough because of hills I absolutely loved every minute. I took sunday and monday off and today went for a short 4 miler. Last night I was itching to get out and do it and it definitely felt very good and I felt strong the whole way around. Could I have found the thing that will keep me fit and get my weight down?
I've spent the majority of my life battling with my figure and never finding a sport that I can stick to in order to lose weight. I've always liked running but have never before got to a fitness where I've noticed a difference. Training for the marathon has been a real revelation. I feel fitter but my body is also changing and it gives me extra momentum for going out on those runs!
I'm actually looking forward to the marathon now! I never thought I would be this into distance running!
I love swimming and I will continue to do it but I've never lost much weight doing it so if I can combine it with long runs then maybe I will have found the perfect combination.
I am also loving the fact that with all this exercise I can eat pretty much what I like! LOVE IT.
Back to work now...
No more displacing!

Dorothy Parker

They sicken of the calm, who knew the storm.

Just discovered the joys of Dorothy Parker...she was awesome

is spring a-coming?

Today, with it's sun, and slightly warmer air it feels a little as if we're being teased with the possibility of spring! Could it be?!
Had a good run this morning, only 5 miles but pretty quick. I had to miss a run yesterday as I had the mother of all blisters on my right foot. I've gone past the pain barrier with it now so this morning it wasn't a problem. I have 15 miles to do on sunday though...I have a feeling that blisters are going to become a permanent fixture for a while...
Am in the Bush Library trying to get some work done now. Sitting on a stool that is too short for the table so feel a bit like a small child pretending to be an adult typing on a keyboard.
Need to focus on getting a treatment written today as next week will be taken up with another writing job. Feeling pretty sleepy though after staying up too late to watch Lost which is just brilliant.
Naughty.
Need to return to the Serp but haven't yet. Next week will have to be the one...

Sorry...

...for my looooong absence from this blog. I have utterly failed to keep up with it!

Since I last wrote I went to Ireland for a writing break which was absolutely fantastic. I was over in Donegal in a little apartment with views across a breathakingly beautiful bay. I had no internet and minimal phone signal so distractions were few and I spent my days writing, reading, running and swimming. I went for three sea swims which were warmer than the Serp but no less lovely. On one of the days I had the whole massive sandy beach to myself. I will try and post a photo at some point when we relocate the camera! I went on some brilliant runs as part of my training too.
I managed to write a play I've been meaning to write for 5 years! It was a personal journey and one that I think has been blocking me up because since then I have felt so much more able to write other stuff. I think I just needed to get it out of my system.

Christmas and NYE came and went and was hugely enjoyable but I got my traditional cold on NYE and spent a good week getting over it. Then I made a bit of a silly mistake...
I thought I was better and decided it was time to return to the Serpentine for a swim but happened to choose the coldest day of the year to do this. There was a hole cut in the ice, it was minus 2 degrees and we were accompanied by a gang of BBC cameras and photographers. I actually ended up on the front page of the Daily Express and page three of the Evening Standard as well as the BBC news...here's a link to one on the guardian website - I'm the one in the blue hat.
It felt amazing and I felt fantastic doing it but later on that day I felt the familiar strains of my recent cold and thought 'oh bugger'.
It then kicked in again and I spent another week getting over it. So that meant over 2 weeks of not being able to run! Booooo.
But I am now back in the game. Last week I got back into it with a 4 mile, 7 mile, 3 mile and 14 mile run and it felt really good. Yesterday I ran 4 miles then had a game of netball too. It is beginning to feel a bit addictive and am loving watching my body change.
I have also been off the booze which was initially a January ban but am considering a partial ban until the Marathon now. Obviously I will have to jump off the wagon for my 30th in March!
I have a clear day today to work on a new play that I've bene writing so am hoping that not too many displacement activities get in the way today!
Apologies again and I will endeavor to be better at doing this!
